Ways to Get Your Child Involved in Philanthropy

Children learn by observing parents in their everyday behaviors and activities. To teach your child to be generous, you have to be it first. Make it a part of the conversation, ask them what kind of causes they want to fight for and why; these types of questions will spark ideas in their mind and make them think about giving. Organizing a service with your kids is fun and rewarding.

I was eight years old when I started serving the children living on the street in my town. I was so influenced by my mom that I started helping with cooking and organizing the services. I found joy in doing that.

In Los Angeles, I serve food to the homeless and most of the time, I bring my kids with me and let them participate.

You can be a philanthropist even without much money, do these simple things with your kids and make it a habit.

•   You can buy water bottles and serve the people living on the street.

•   You can buy coffee/hot chocolate during winter time to give out to the homeless.

•   Your children can go through their closets and pick all the clothes and shoes they don’t wear anymore and give them away to charities.

•   Volunteer in a shelter or an organization with them.

•   Let them save a dollar each time you give them an allowance, match the amount of money raised and let them make a donation to the charity of their choice.

•   Talk to them about creating their own foundation/ non-profit organization.

•   Find more opportunities in the philanthropic field they are more interested in.

They will thank you for being consistent and for teaching them to be compassionate, caring and respectful.

Our children are the future leaders of the world and teaching them the gift of giving will make a big difference in the world they will inherit.
